Nobel prize πŸ† 2020

The 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has gone to Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna “for the development of a method for genome editing.” That method, formally known as CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing but often called simply CRISPR, allows scientists to precisely cut any strand of DNA they wish. In the 8 years since its creation, CRISPR has been a boon for biologists, who have published thousands of studies showing that the tool can alter DNA in organisms across the tree of life, including butterflies, mushrooms, tomatoes, and even humans. “The number of discoveries in biomedicine that have had the impact that Jennifer’s and Emmanuelle’s had can be counted on the fingers of one hand: recombinant DNA, PCR [polymerase chain reaction], DNA sequencing, and now CRISPR,” says Fyodor Urnov, a gene-editing scientist at the University of California, Berkeley. “We have never had a technology as powerful and versatile as genome editing with CRISPR.” Charpentier, who is now at the Max...

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced the recipients of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics, which has been awarded for discoveries about black holes, one of the most exotic phenomena in the universe. This year’s prize is awarded to Roger Penrose (University of Oxford), Reinhard Genzel (Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics, and University of California, Berkeley), and Andrea Ghez (University of California, Los Angeles). Genzel and Ghez are both APS Fellows. Ghez is also the fourth woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Physics, joining Marie Curie, Maria Goeppert-Mayer, and Donna Strickland. One half of the Nobel Prize in Physics is awarded to Penrose “for the discovery that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity.” The other half is awarded jointly to Genzel and Ghez “for the discovery of a supermassive compact object at the center of our galaxy.” Together, their discoveries were groundbreaking, proving black holes can e...

MY TEACHER πŸ₯°

World Teachers' Day, also known as International Teachers Day, is an international day held annually on 5 October. Established in 1994, it commemorates the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which is a standard-setting instrument that addresses the status and situations of teachers around the world.  In this occasion I am very much delighted to write a few words about my teacher's who guide me in my 23 years of journey in education😍.  It's most appropriate to start with my Anganavadi teacher. I still remember the class room we had, it was a small hut near a church, where we sit in the cowdung coated ground πŸ˜…. A slate with a wooden frame was the only weapon in my hand (hope we had tabs and mobile phones back thenπŸ˜’). The homework written on the slate will be vanished when we reach the class. And there she comes my first ever teacher. We call her Mariyamma teacher with a sense of fear in our words. She was like a witc...
